Sermon on the Mount cont.
Sermon on the Mount
Song: Love Your Neighbor 1 and Love Your Neighbor 2
Monday
Matthew 5:37-39
King James Version
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
-
Last week we talked about integrity and how when we have integrity then others will believe us when we say yes or no. If we try to swear and it doesn't happen, then you have to repent and get it right. But let your yes be yes and no be no.
-
The next scripture talks about in the OT they had an eye for an eye or tooth for a tooth law but Jesus says if someone smite thee on the right cheek turn the other also. Basically, if someone wronged us then we should not want to get back at them. But we pray for them and still show love to them. When we do this, we are having perfect love like the father.
-
Men did so much wickedness to Jesus, they beat Him, spat on Him, placed a crown of thorns on His head. Ouch! Yet Jesus did not get back at them or try to fight but He endured it and the shame, to be an example for us! It takes humility to be slandered and hurt and still love. Through Christ we can do it!
-
Read these scriptures and write down what it means: 1 Peter 2:21-24
-
Let's Pray! Dear Lord, thank you for this lesson! Please help me to love like you love! In Jesus name Amen.
Tuesday
Matthew 5:40-42
King James Version
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
-
In these scriptures Jesus is still teaching us how to love one another. It says if someone sue thee at the law and take your coat give them your cloak also meaning don't hold a grudge but go ahead and just give everything that's owed. We should always go the extra mile for one another. An example of going the extra mile is: when my friend father had passed, she asked to buy a cake from me. I told her I will do it. So, I went to the store to get decorations for the cake so it would be so pretty. I made the cake and decorated it real nice so it would be perfect. I took it to her house and let her have it for free. She felt the love. We have to remember that we need to do all things as unto the Lord. When we think about it that way, that I am doing this for the Lord, then you would make sure it's perfect and go the extra mile. Same when someone borrows from you. The Bible says it's better to give then receive and we should prefer others over ourselves.
-
Let's read these set of scriptures and write down the difference between the two. Mathew 25:32-46
-
Let's Pray! Thank you, Lord, for showing us how to love! Please help me to love like you! In Jeus name Amen.
Wednesday
Matthew 5:43-45
King James Version
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
-
These scriptures talk about loving your enemy. Have you ever had someone make you upset that you didn't want to talk or play with them. Even in this, God can help you to still love them. Loving them is not being friendly in their face but yet talking about them behind their backs. God wants us to have genuine love, unconditional love. Meaning I love you regardless of who you are, skin color, or how you treat me. When we love like this, we are the children of God.
-
Homework: Lets read some scriptures about love: 1 Corinthians 13 and 1 John 4
-
Let's Pray! Thank you, Lord, for loving us and showing us how to love. Please help me to love like you! In Jesus name Amen.
Thursday
Matthew 5:46-48
King James Version
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
-
This is our final lesson for the month! Did you enjoy it? I sure hope so! I sure enjoyed putting this together for you!
-
Finally, should we love them that love us only! No, we should love everyone even the sinner man and the unloving. When we do this, we show them Christ and they may be won over by the love you show them.
-
Then it says be ye perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect. Be perfect!! How can I do that? Sometimes you may fail your test at school, or sometimes you might not say something just right. Thats not the perfect He is talking about He is talking about having perfect love for one another and we should have perfect love for the father. How do we have perfect love for the father in John 14:15 says if you love me keep my commandments. So, when we love Him, we keep His commandments.
-
Let's Pray! Thank you, Lord, for your word! Please help me to do what's right every day! In Jesus name Amen.
