Matthew 5:25-27

King James Version

25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

  • To better understand this text, we will look Luke 12:58-59.  It says to give diligence which means careful.  We want to be careful especially when dealing with the law because the officer just may let you go if you are in compliance.  When we get out of sorts then they may go ahead and lock you up and then you will have to pay a fine to get out.  This can go with any situation in life.  If you ate your sibling candy and then they come around looking for the candy.  What should you do?  The best response is to say, "I ate it, I'm sorry."  They may be more merciful and forgiving.  But when you deny it or say someone else did it.  When they find out it was you, they will be upset with you.  Also, you have did wrong in the eyes of God because you told a lie.  Its best to humble ourselves and own up to our wrong doings or mistakes we may have to suffer the consequences and sometimes we may be given mercy.

  • Let's pray!  Dear Lord, thank you for helping us in our everyday life. Please continue to help us to navigate through this life! In Jesus name, Amen.

Tuesday

Matthew 5:27-30

King James Version

27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

  • These set of scriptures are talking about not lusting after a woman neither should a woman a man.  Then it says if your right eye offends thee pluck it out or if thou right hand offend thee cut it off.  Should we really pluck out our eye or cut off our hand?  Write down what you think He means.

  • We have to crucify this body of flesh put those things to death! So, we won't be cast into hell.  How do we do that? We have to pray, fast, read our Bibles. Also, to not make provisions for the flesh for example: if it's a friend that's causing you to sin let them go, if it's a place you go to or hang out that's causing you to sin don't go there anymore, and if its anything that's causing your eyes or hands to offend let it go (cell phones, aps, computers ex...).

  • Homework.  Examine your life if you find anything that offends God write it down and pray that God will help you to get rid of it.

  • Let's Pray. Dear Lord, thank you for your light of truth, helps us to walk in your light continuously.  In Jesus name, Amen.

Wednesday

Matthew 5:31-33

King James Version

31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:

32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:

  • These set of scriptures talks about not divorcing your wife or husband but saving for the cause of fornication.  This means exactly what it says.  A perfect example of this was when Mary was espoused to Joseph, and she was pregnant with Jesus and during the Old Testament time this was looked down upon.  Joseph being a just man decided to put her away privately, but the angel of the Lord spoke to Joseph and told him everything and said to marry her, so he did. Read Mathew 1:18-20.

  • God want us to stay with our spouse until death. Romans 7:2-4.

  • God compared Jesus and the church like a marriage.  The church is His bride, and He is the husbandman.  The church is loyal and faithful to Him and so is He to the church.  Read Ephesians 5:22-33.

  • Let's Pray!  Thank you, Lord, for your many blessings! Please help us to be like your Son!  In Jesus name, Amen.

Thursday

Matthew 5:34-36

King James Version

34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:

35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.

36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

  • Have you ever heard someone say, "I swear I'll do this or that, or I swear I'm telling the truth".  Have you ever said it?  Well now you know we should not swear but let our yes be yes and no be no.  We should be truthful in everything we say and do. We should be men and women or boys and girls of integrity.

  • Look up the word integrity.

  • When we have integrity, then people will believe us when we simply say yes or no.

  • Look at this video: Don't Lie

  • Let's Pray!  Dear Lord thank you for helping me to be a good person.  Please help me to be a girl/boy of integrity.  In Jesus name Amen.
